The boys' Region IV Tennis Tournament began Saturday at Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green and a number of area players advanced.
Barren County's doubles tandem of Hayden Rickard and Ethan Kiteck won two matches on Saturday to reach today's quarterfinal round.
The No. 5 seeded Rickard and Kiteck opened with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hunter and Wells of Clinton County. They followed that with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 win over Trent Bosse and Adam Garrett of Glasgow. They had downed Martin and Sabanovic of South Warren in the first round, 6-3, 6-0.
Rickard and Kiteck play Collins and Goodwin of Warren East today.
Also advancing to the quarterfinal round is Glasgow's Foster Vann in singles. Vann defeated Shivam Champeneria of Franklin-Simpson 6-0, 6-0. He downed Monroe's Jamison McFall 6-3, 6-2 in the second round. He is to face Greenwood's Austin Schneller in the quarterfinals.
Barren's Michael Belcher and Brandon Witty lost in a play-in game, 4-6, 6-3, 0-1, to Bennett and Bowman of Caverna.
Glasgow's Brian Sadler fell in the first round to Chris Collier of Russellville 3-6, 2-6. The doubles team of Ashab Ahmed and Cody Jones beat Carver and Grizzle of Allen County 6-1, 6-2. Then lost to Bowling Green's Grise and Grise, 6-3, 4-6, 9-11.
In singles, Barren's Grant Gardner defeated Christopher Cox of Clinton County 6-2, 6-1, then lost to Isaac Allen of Cumberland County 3-6, 6-4, 8-10 in a tie-breaker set. Also, Tristan Shaw lost to Brennan Summers of Logan County 4-6, 4-6.
