GLASGOW — The Glasgow Lady Scotties ran into a softball buzzsaw, more commonly known as the South Warren Lady Spartans, Thursday afternoon and came away on the short end of a 13-1 decision. Glasgow falls to 2-2 on the year, while South Warren improves to 3-1.

“I was really disappointed with the approach we had coming to the park. We didn’t give good effort,” said Glasgow coach Steven Murphy. “There weren’t a lot of positives coming from this game.”

South Warren scored three runs in the first inning and one in the second to take an early 4-0 lead. The Lady Spartans tallied two more runs in the third and two more in the sixth inning to make it 8-0. They added five in the seventh.

Glasgow’s lone run came in the seventh inning. Haven Hernandez singled and moved to second on a groundout by Maggie Phelps. Katie Hinkley followed with an double to score Hernandez.

Brittany Dugger went the distance on the mound for the Lady Scotties. She gave up 13 runs, 10 were earned, on 12 hits. She walked two batters and struck out two.

Glasgow heads to Marshall County this weekend for the Marshall County Slugfest.

The Lady Scotties will play Muhlenberg County on Friday night before facing Lyon County, Calloway County and Ballard Memorial on Saturday.

GHS Scotties edge Greenwood

A sacrifice fly by Josh Boggs in the top of the ninth inning Thursday night helped the Glasgow Scotties slip by Greenwood 2-1 in baseball action.

Glasgow got on the board early with a single run in the top of the first inning. Ryan Hinkley led off the game with a double. He came around to score on a single by Connor Glass.

The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Greenwood scored on an error to tie the game.

The Scotties picked up the win with a run in the top of the ninth inning. Tyler Pitcock singled and moved to second on a passed ball. He then stole third base before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Boggs to seal the victory.

Glasgow is now 4-1 on the season and will host Logan County on Saturday at 11 a.m.
