There will be some very high level tennis played this weekend at Gorin Park as the annual W.A. Weldon Open Tennis Tournament and Jim Moody Doubles Classic begin on Friday.
“It is a very competitive test of tennis,” said tournament coordinator Terry Bunnell. “The level of competition will be very good. These players work hard at their games and watching them play is very entertaining.”
Most of these players, Bunnell said, have played collegiately on a national level, and the tournament has become a regional favorite because it gives them a chance to showcase their abilities.
The tournament, which has free admission, will begin Friday at 4 p.m. with one round of singles play. Competition will resume on Saturday at 8 a.m. with more singles play and the beginning of the doubles tournament.
The championship finals will be at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
