The lake level at Barren River Lake stood at 559.16 feet at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, more than seven feet over summer pool. The lake is filled with debris of all sorts, including logs and even some trees. If you go, you need to be extremely careful.
Fishing slowed somewhat Tuesday with the rapid rise in the lake level caused by the weekend rains. But as things settle and the water color improves, some excellent bass fishing opportunities are in the offering as new cover makes itself available along the shorelines.
Crappie fishing, which has been very good up until Monday, is also expected to improve as the fish move to shallow water to spawn. According to one of my “Oldtimer” buddies, the blacks have spawned, but the white crappie are still full of eggs.
