Two Caverna seniors sign with C'ville

HORSE CAVE — Two Caverna High School seniors signed letters of intent Thursday morning to continue their athletic careers at Campbellsville University next year.

Reagan Kingrey, a six-year varsity softball player for Caverna, will play softball at Campbellsville, choosing that sport over her other two, basketball and volleyball.

Senior George Boyd chose to pursue college football over his other activities, band, basketball and baseball.

Anytime a senior is able to sign with a college athletic program, Caverna Athletic Director Nick Stephens said they are “just tickled to death for them.”

Boyd has only been playing football for two years, he said, but he fell in love with the game and decided he wanted to excell enough to play in college. He had a little bit of catching up to do, he said, with teammates who had been playing football for many years.

“I felt like I was a little behind other players because they played all their lives, but I just tried to work hard,” Boyd said.

Work hard is what Boyd has done as a wide receiver for Caverna. Head coach Rodney Middleton said Boyd is a “raw talent.”

“He’s got a good outlook on life and he’s a hard worker,” Middleton said.

Boyd got hurt during the last seaosn, Middleton said, but he just became part of the coaching staff instead of giving up. He went to every practice and film session, and focused on encouraging the other players.

“He’s just a constant team player,” Middleton said. “Campbellsville is getting not just a good athlete, but a good person.”
