Barren County wins district title with 2-0 victory over Glasgow

GLASGOW — Whenever Barren County and Glasgow meet on the soccer pitch, both teams seem to raise their play to another level. The rivalry sparks both sides to leave everything on the field.

And Thursday’s District 15 tournament final was no exception. The Trojans had two regular season victories over the Scotties, but that wasn’t obvious in Thursday’s contest. Barren County won, 2-0.

“I thought we played well. You have to give the guys credit. They came into the match not taking anything for granted,” said BCHS coach Laurence Nyekan. “It is hard playing a team you’ve beaten during the regular season and there is a sense of complacency that comes in. But today they come in sharp, focused.

“We try to play whatever the defense gives us. If they’re packing the middle, we will go wide and if they’re going wide, we will go middle. We’re so unselfish.”

Barren County’s Francisco Juarez got the Trojans on the board first with a goal in the second minute of action. The Trojans made it 2-0 on a goal in the 33rd minute of play by Austen Eaton.
