SPORTS BRIEFLY: Glasgow, Barren County host open comment periods on Title IX

GLASGOW — Glasgow, Barren County hosting open comment periods on Title IX

Both local high schools will be hosting public commentary sessions on Title IX at their high schools in the following week.

Glasgow High School will host their session on Tuesday from 3-3:30 p.m. in the school’s library. Barren County will host its session on Wednesday at 3 p.m., also in the school library.

Title IX law states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”

Both meetings are open to the public.

Meet the Trojans set for Monday

Barren County High School will host the winter session of “Meet the Trojans” on Monday at the high school gymnasium.

The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with a potluck dinner.

“Meet the Trojans” provides Barren County fans an opportunity to meet the coaches and athletes for all winter athletic teams.

Cardinals to reveal championship banner

LOUISVILLE – The University of Louisville’s 2013 NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship banner will be revealed in a pregame ceremony prior to the Cardinals’ opening game against College of Charleston on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:45 p.m. to view the presentation. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

The banner will be on display in the upper end of the KFC Yum! Center aside the Cardinals’ 1980 and 1986 NCAA Championship banners, UofL’s additional seven Final Four banners, and the 1948 NAIB and 1956 NIT Championship banners. A special video of the Cardinals’ championship run will be played during the ceremony and the pregame video prior to player introductions will also have a championship theme that will be used solely for this opening game.
