Depleted Caverna looks for win over Adair County

GLASGOW — As Rodney Middleton prepares his Caverna High School team for Friday’s home football game against Adair County, Middleton has his hands tied. Unavailable for the Colonels’ roster are four players who figure heavily in Caverna’s offensive and defensive schemes

“We’ve got four starters out. Dalton Johnson, Jeremiah Ochoa, Cody Coleman and Slade Jones will not play Friday,” said Middleton. “Jeremiah and Cody will be back next week. But Dalton has severe asthma and Slade is hobbled with bruised ribs.

“And injuries are our Achilles heel. When you only have 20 or so players, you have no depth. You have to be able to move people around, whether they’ve played that position or not.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Colonels come into the contest with a 0-1 record after losing 56-20 last Friday at Eminence, while Adair County will be playing its season opener.
