The Barren County Trojans took a depleted team of wrestlers to the Bruin Duals at Central Hardin High School last weekend. The Trojans, missing several players due to illness and injury, finished the meet with an 0-5 team record.
“It was a tough dual meet for us,” said Barren County coach Luke Pniewski. “It only had 10 teams there, but had some tops teams in the state. LaRue County is always going to be a top team. Central Hardin and Meade County are both Top 10 in the state.”
Zack Mesker, wrestling at 106 pounds for the Trojans, highlighted the tournament for Barren County. He was 3-1 on the day.
“Zack’s one loss was a match that he could have won,” said Pniewski. “He lost to a pretty tough kid from Central Hardin, but scored two takedowns. He just showed some lack of experience on the mat, and the kid turned him and got the win.
“We are surprisingly deep from 120 - 132 pounds. I have six guys to fill those three weights. We competed well at 120 with Hunter Jackson and Spencer York. We didn’t win many matches at those weight, but the kids are scoring points, and both kids are very close to winning a lot.”
