John Petett is ecstatic his Monroe County High School football team is 3-1 on the season. The Falcons have won the last three games in a row, sporting wins over Metcalfe County, Warren East and Barren County.
But Petett said he wants his players to keep the season in perspective. The Falcons are playing well right now, but their record won’t mean anything when they travel to Columbia Friday to battle the undefeated Adair County Indains.
“I talked about it with the kids just yesterday. We’re very fortunate to be 3-1 right now. We’ve played some teams, where in the end, we made a couple of extra plays to win the ballgame,” said Petett. “We’re fortunate to be 3-1, but we’ve put ourselves in the position to have to make those plays to win games.
“I do see us starting to play a little better every week, but there are a lot of things we can do to improve to where we won’t put ourselves in such a bind. I guess that’s because of our inexperience. But I do see ourselves slowly starting to take bigger strides than we were taking earlier in the year.”
