The Glasgow High School Scotties used some solid pitching and some timely hitting to post a 4-2 victory over Greenwood High School on the road Tuesday in the opening game for both teams.
JT Green got the start on the mound for the Scotties and he went four innings before giving way to Matt Shives. Green allowed only two hits, but he had no walks and five strikeouts. Shives gave up both of Greenwood’s runs, both they were unearned. He allowed three hits, struck out two and walked none.
“You can’t beat it,” said Glasgow coach Sam Royse. “That was a nice outing from both of those guys against what I think is a very good Greenwood team. Good pitching sets the tone for the rest of the game. And we got that tonight.”
The Scotties scored one run in the first, fourth, sixth and seventh innings. Ryan Hinkley opened the game for Glasgow in the top of the first by getting hit by a pitch. He stole second base and went to third on a fielder’s choice. Hinkley later scored on a ground ball by Carlos Morrison.
