If Monday night’s game between the Barren County Trojans and the Glasgow Scotties was a heavyweight boxing match, the Trojans delivered the knockout blow in the 15th round when the BCHS outscored the Scotties 8-2 over the final 4:00 minutes to pick up a 55-48 victory in the first round of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association District 15 Basketball Tournament at Barren County High School.
“It was the type of game we thought it would be. It was two good teams and they are so difficult to guard because they have such good guards and they have so many of them,” said Barren County coach Warren Cunningham. “They can drive it and they also have the threat of getting out from the 3-point line. That’s what scares you to death. However, I thought we did a job good job of not giving up too many 3s.”
“They made some big plays at the end and you have to give them credit. But when you are 6-of-17 from the free throw line, that just won’t get it,” said Glasgow coach John Tinsley. “We went up late in the game. We played extremely well. We went up , I think, 48-47, and put ourselves in a position to win. But when you can’t make a free throw and you can’t make layups, that’s not going to get it done.”
The Trojans will play Allen County-Scottsville in the district tournament finals on Thursday night at 7
