Monroe County Falcons split games in LWC Classic

GLASGOW — The Monroe County Falcons were as close as they could be to pulling of a win against Louisville Holy Cross on Friday morning in the Lindsey Wilson College Classic. But the Falcons come up short, losing 62-61.

“They beat us by one,” said Monroe County coach Steve Kirkpatrick.

During the first quarter, Monroe County looked like the better team; the score was 14-9. The Falcons also outscored the Cougars at halftime, 23-20. The third period was the same story; it was 51-42 Falcons. The last period is where the heartbreak happened. The final score was 62-61, Holy Cross.

“We need to learn how to finish a game where we have a lead and make free throws in the fourth quarter. We were four for 11,” Kirkpatrick said.

Gibril Summers and Dillon Geralds led the scoring effort with 13 points each. Will Goodman made 12 points, while Skyler Geralds made one fewer. Lincoln Arnett and Garrett Crowe scored six points a piece.

The Falcons sang a different tune later Friday when they played the Caverna Colonels. Monroe County shot the ball well and came out with a 73-57 victory.

“We came out focused better in the second game today,” Kirkpatrick said. “Free throws were much better. For the game, we hit 11 out of 15.”

The Falcons started out leading the game and finished leading the game. The first quarter, the score was 12-5, Monroe County. During the second quarter, the Falcons outscored 31-19. The score continued to climb for the Falcons. At the end of the third, it was 50-33. The final score was 73-57, Falcons.

Dillon Geralds scored 19 points, scoring more than he did the previous game. William Goodman also scored in the double digits, with 10 points. Garrett Crowe tipped in nine points, while John Geralds got eight. Gibril Summers tallied six, as did Lincoln Arnett. Noah Curtis and Kale Rich got four each. Colton Myatt added three points. Skyler Geralds and Trey Isenberg made two points a piece.

The Lindsey Wilson College Holiday Classic, which these two games were a part of, will wrap up 11 a.m. Sunday at Adair County High School.
