Caverna boys win two of three
The Caverna Colonels picked up two wins this past week at the Marion County Holiday Classic.
The Colonels lost to Marion County 79-49 in the tournament opener. However, Caverna rallied to beat Bethlehem 59-57 and closed out the tournament with a 78-70 victory over Spencer County. The Colonels, currently 5-5 on the season, begin play in the Lindsey Wilson College Holiday Classic on Thursday.
Lady Colonels split four games
The Caverna High School Lady Colonels had an up and down effort at the Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic last week at Clinton County High School.
Caverna opened the tournament with a 67-48 loss to Pickett (TN) County, but followed that with a 60-51 victory over Clay (TN) County in the second round of the tournament. The Lady Colonels couldn’t make it two in a row, dropping their next game 64-51 to host Clinton County. But Caverna rallied to win the finale, taking down McCreary Central, 53-43.
Caverna, now 7-6 on the season, hits the road on Saturday to face Western Hills in the Staxx BBQ Shootout at Franklin County.
Metcalfe wins one at ECHS tourney
The Metcalfe County Lady Hornets won only one of three games last week in the prestigious Rafferty’s/Double Dogs Classic at Edmonson County High School.
Metcalfe County lost the opener by a score of 55-42 to Southwestern Pulaski and followed that up the next day with a 61-48 loss to Harlan. But Metcalfe County came back on the final day with a 55-46 win over Louisville Iroquois.
Monroe County girls improve to 7-3
The Monroe County Lady Falcons ran their record to 7-3 on the season this past week with three victories at the FNB Holiday Classic.
The Lady Falcons beat Fleming County in the opener by a score of 76-37 and followed that up with an 82-64 victory over Owensboro Apollo. The Franklin-Simpson Lady Wildcats beat Monroe County 46-42, but the Lady Falcons beat North Hardin in the final game of the tournament by a score of 68-60.
Monroe County will play Franklin County on Friday.
