The Campbellsville Tigers had just scored a run in the bottom of the seventh-inning Thursday to knock off the Glasgow Scotties 4-3 to win the 12-Under Little League District Baseball Tournament and advance to next week’s state tournament in Prestonsburg.
Glasgow’s magical tournament journey, which had included several come-from-behind victories, had finally come to a close. The clock struck 12 midnight.
“Over the last seven or eight weeks, these kids have grown so much. They have gone from kids to young men,” said Glasgow Coach David “Poppy” Franklin. “They wanted this game so bad and I wanted it for them. They put in the hard work, the long hot days; they have done everything I have asked them to do to get to this point, to make a run at the district title.
“Campbellsville is a really good team and I have to take my hat off to them. They have won this district the last five or six years.”
