Wyatt, Manion lead Trojanettes to 56-55 victory

GLASGOW — John Butler, the head girls’ basketball coach at Barren County High School, said before the season if his team was going to be successful he was going to have to get key scoring from his upperclassmen. Well, he got it Friday night.

Seniors Kaitlyn Wyatt and Kelsay Manion hit four straight free throws in the final 30 seconds of the game to give the Trojanettes a thrilling 56-55 victory over visiting South Warren.

“I am happy for them. Both game we’ve played this year, we’ve played hard and we’ve competed,” said Butler. “And we made a lot of competitive plays late tonight. That’s been a sign of this team. And hey, we beat a very good team tonight.”

And the Lady Spartans showed why they’re one of the better teams in the region as they battled the Trojanettes bucket for bucket throughout the first half. South Warren shot just under 50 percent from the field in the first two quarters to lead 14-11 at the end of one period and 31-30 at the intermission.

“We didn’t guard them well early, but I thought we did a better job in the second half recognizing who the shooters were and tightening it down,” Butler relayed. “We didn’t really change anything defensively in the second half. We just. . .emphasized things a little bit at halftime. I will say it that way.”
