Bassmasters taking registration

GLASGOW — It is not too early to mention some important events coming up next month.

The 38th annual Bassmasters Fall Classic will be held on Barren River Lake on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a $2,500 pot up for grabs. The entry fee is $35 per person. You can get complete details on the Bassmasters webpage. Just Google Barren Bassmasters and you can download an entry form.

On the Saturday before, Sept. 14, the Barren River Rod and Gun Club will host a big Field Day at their clubgrounds at Lucas. This is kind of a revival of a once-annual event that involved sportsmen from all over the 4th District. The event will begin at 9 a.m. with a black powder shoot followed at 10 a.m. by an archery competition. There will also be pistol and .22 rifle competitions, a casting contest and a pitch tournament to begin at 1 p.m. Also at 1 p.m., there will be a free squirrel shoot for the youth and a casting competition for the younger set. Trap shooting will begin at 3 p.m. Food will be available in the clubhouse.

We also need to mention a fundraiser for the Cave City Fire Department to conclude Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. with a drawing for a $500 gift certificate from Barren Outdoors. Tickets are $5 or five for $20 and can be purchased from any of the volunteer firemen or at City Hall in Cave City.
