ACS girls rout Trojanettes

GLASGOW — Allen County-Scottsville handled Barren County on the Trojanettes' home court Friday, holding the hosts to just 16 points through three quarters in a 60-33 District 15 victory.

“We did the best we can,” said Barren County coach John Butler. “It is what it is right now. They are one of the top 10 teams in the state. They are athletic. They have a great player in (junior guard) Morgan Rich, who will be a Division I player. Allen is 20-2 for a reason. … I have nothing negative to say about my kids and all the compliments to Allen.”

The Lady Patriots jumped to an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes. After a Deanie Pedigo basket, ACS finished the quarter on an 8-2 run to hold a commanding 16-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Rich had 8 of her 14 points in the period.

In the second quarter, the Trojanettes largely played even with ACS as Pedigo hit a 3-pointer and Kennedy Logsdon added a bucket to make it 21-9 after three minutes. The rest of the quarter wasn’t much different as Barren County stayed within 16 at the half at 28-12.

The Lady Patriots pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Trojanettes 18-4 in the period.

The fourth quarter was a bright spot for Barren County, as the Trojanettes' reserves held their own against the reserves of the No. 7 team in the state. The Trojanettes scored 17 points in the final period.

“Our kids played to the end and I was proud of them,” Butler said. “Olivia Houchens made three 3-pointers for us and I thought Raina Rodriguez came off the bench and did well. Even our starters in the first half did some nice things. Allen is just at another level than we are right now.

“We have injuries. We obviously miss Madison Hume, who is out with a knee injury, she’s a big loss for us. We did the best we could.”

ACS was led in scoring by Rich, who also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Barren County's scoring came from Houchens with 9, Pedigo with 7, Taylor Davis with 5, Rodriguez with 4, Morgan Hunt with 3, Kennedy Logsdon and Maddie Costlow finished with 2 apiece and Chelesea Burchett added 1.
