Rachael Fields scored a double-double Tuesday night with 10 points and 10 rebounds to help the Barren County Trojanettes knock off Warren East in girls’ basketball action.
“We’ve battled injuries this year, so we really needed this win,” said Barren County coach John Butler. “I thought we played very well at times tonight.”
The Trojanettes jumped out to an early lead on the Lady Raiders. Barren County led 18-10 at the end of the first period and held a 30-24 advantage as the teams left the floor at intermission.
“Well, we shot the ball well in the first half. That always helps,” said Butler.
The Trojanettes maintained their lead throughout the third period, leading 47-39 as the final quarter began.
Warren East made a rally late and actually cut the Trojanettes’ lead to one, but Barren County’s Deanie Pedigo answered with a big 3-pointer to give the Trojanettes breathing room.
“They pulled within one with about 5:00 to go. But Deanie answered with a big 3-pointer to push our lead out to four points,” Butler relayed.
The Trojanettes put four players in double figures.
Pedigo led the way with 18 points. Kennedy Logsdon scored 11 points, while Fields and Emily Blair had 10 points each. Taylor Davis and Reanna Poynter had six points each. Olivia Poynter tallied four points and Maddie Costlow scored two. “I thought Kennedy Logsdon was terrific tonight,” Butler said. “She did a great job of handling the ball against their pressure.”
Barren County will be back in action on Friday when they visit Monroe County.
