The Barren County 10-Under All-Stars swung some pretty hot bats Thursday night as Barren County knocked off Scottsville 14-11 in the semifinals of the winners’ bracket of the Cal Ripken District 6 Baseball Tournament at Jackie Browning Park.
The victory puts Barren County in the championship game at 6 p.m. on Friday. Barren County will play either Green County or Scottsville.
The offensive surge, for both teams, began in the first inning Thursday. Barren County opened the game with three runs.
Brennan Hicks led off the game with a single. He stole second and moved to third on a single by Gage Goodman. Hicks later scored on a passed ball and Goodman scored on a single by Tyler Jones.
Jones tried to stretch the single into a double and Reese Harper, who had walked following Goodman’s single, scored on the throw to second to get Jones.
Scottsville answered with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a brief 4-3 advantage.
That lead was short-lived as Barren County got seven runs in the top of the second to make it 10-4.
Jamison Buie led off with a triple and Holden Bullock and Blaye Key followed with walks. Bryson Adwell then singled to score Buie and a single by Hicks brought in Bullock.
Hunter Scott struck out, but Goodman followed with a double to score Key and Adwell. Harper doubled to score Hicks and Goodman. Harper later scored on a single by Blake Cook for the seventh run of the inning.
Scottsville went down in order in the bottom of the second with Barren County pushing its lead to 11-4 with a solo run in the top of the third.
Scottsville got two runs back in the bottom of the third to make it 11-6, but Barren County answered right back with three runs in the top of the fourth to make it 14-6.
Goodman singled and Harper walked. Jones then singled to score Goodman and Harper scored on a fielder’s choice by Cook.
Buie struck out and Jordan Hare followed with a double to score Jones.
Scottville tallied five runs over the final innings to post the 14-11 final.
