Time ran out on the Glasgow 12-Under All-Stars’ Cinderella season Wednesday night when the Scotties dropped a 9-5 decision to Marion County in the quarterfinals of the Little League District Tournament in Springfield.
“We talked to the kids after the game about how this tournament was a great opportunity for them,” said Glasgow coach Ervin Sorrell.
“We won two of the four games we played and I think we came up here and made a great showing. We wanted to come up here and compete and I think that’s what we did every night.”
Glasgow certainly hit the ball hard against Marion County, but the Scotties had a difficult time putting multiple hits together.
Glasgow got on the board in the first inning on a solo homer by Nik Sorrell. Connor Taylor followed suit in the fourth inning with a solo jack of his own.
The Scotties made a strong run at Marion County with three more runs in the fifth inning. Once again Taylor provided the punch Glasgow needed as he smacked a three-run homer over the fence.
It wasn’t enough for the Scotties as Glasgow came up short in the end.
“We had some errors early in the game, but we started to battle back in the fifth inning,” Sorrell explained. “The kids knew they had to come out and compete tonight and that’s what they tried to do.”
Sorrell said Nelson Cole pitched very well for Glasgow. Cole was relieved by Xavier Ferreira, and Tyler Lane came on to close out the game.
