Eaton, Wyatt win at Class AAA regional

GLASGOW — Two Barren County athletes won their regional events and automatically qualified for state.

Gunnar Eaton won the discus at the Region 2, Class AAA meet at Central Hardin High School and Trey Wyatt won the 100 meter dash. The wins qualify both the Kentucky High School Athletics Association State Meet in Lexington on May 25.

Wyatt beat Martin Marlin of North Hardin by .04 seconds in his event. Barren’s Aaron Shaw finished ninth in the event. Eaton won the discus by nearly six feet, winning with a throw of 127-feet, 7-inches. Joe McGinnis of Logan County was second with a toss of 121-feet, 11-inches. Barren’s Tristan Barerra was seventh in the discus.

In other events, Max Pena was fifth in the 110 high hurdles and Nick Mabe was seventh in the event. Pena was fifth in the 300 hurdles and Mabe was sixth. Mabe was also fourth in the high jump. Hunter Hohmann was fourth in the pole vault; Eaton was sixth in the shot put and Alex Sergent was seventh in the shot.

Austin Day was eighth in the long jump.

Billy Mowery was 11th in the 1,600 meter run; Taylor Groce was 11th in the 200 meter dash and Matthew Read was 11th in the 3,200 run and Graham Setzler was 13th in the event. Dylan Mitchell was 11th in the turbo javelin and Day was 12th.

Three Barren County relay teams finished third in their respective events. Pena, Day, Austin Eaton and Chad Eaton combined to finish third in the 4x100 relay, while Pena, Wyatt, Shaw and Austin Eaton teamed to finished third in the 4x200 relay. Mabe, Wyatt, Austin Eaton and Luke Edmunds ran together and finished third in the 4x400 relay. Finally, Edmunds, Chad Eaton, Ben Morgan and JD Anderson teamed to finish sixth in the 4x800 relay.

As a team, the Trojans finished fifth with 52 points. North Hardin won the boys meet.

The Barren County girls’ team had no individual winners and finished sixth as a team with 21 points.

Jessica Durham finished fourth in the high jump, while Kaitlyn Gumm finished fifth in the pole vault and Tia Lowe finished fifth in the 100 meter hurdles. Tamara Combs was 10th in the 100 hurdles. Lee Wright was fifth in the turbo javelin. Lowe was also seventh in the 100 meter dash and Abbie Craver was ninth in that event.

Reanna Poynter was sixth in the shot put and eighth in the discus.

Kayla Roeder was seventh in the 1,600 meter run, while Taylor Davis was ninth in the 300 hurdles and Combs was 10th in that event.

Geron Walters was ninth in the 800 meter run, while Craver was 11th in the 200 meter dash. In the 400, Nyoka Eddington finished 10th and Kaylie Dismon was 12th.

Barren had two fourths and a fifth in relay events.

In the 4x100, Craver, Durham, Davis and Rainna Rodriguez teamed to finish fourth. Davis, Durham, Dismon and Rodriguez teamed to finish fourth.

Davis, Eddington, Roeder and Olivia Houchens ran together in the 4x800 and finished fifth.
