Logsdon leads Trojanettes to 8-5 win over Lady Spartans

GLASGOW — Tuesday night was senior night for the Barren County softball team, but it was sophomore pitcher Kennedy Logsdon who led the team to a victory over South Warren.

The night started with seniors Maggie Bellamy, Shelby Wood, Brilee Houchens, and Rachel Fields being recognized lining up down the third baseline with their parents announcing their involvement in school activities and their future plans. It ended with Barren winning 8-5.

The game started with Logsdon walking the first batter who was then thrown out by senior catcher Katie Bridges as the runner tried to steal second.

A fly out to left and a fly out to center quickly ended the first for the Trojanettes who came ready to play against the 16-8 Lady Spartans.

The bottom of the first started with Logsdon leading off and hitting the ball deep into the trees behind the center field fence on the second pitch of the at bat. A ground out, aggressive base running getting a runner out at second and a strike out retired the side with the Trojanettes ahead early 1-0.

In the top of the second, the Lady Spartans flirted with scoring by getting runners to second and third. They capitalized on an error in center field. The momentum eventually fell flat as a line out to second and a ground out to short left the runners stranded.

The bottom of the second started with a Shelby Wood single to the right center gap. The next three batters failed to move Wood as there was a strike out, a caught foul ball and a grounder getting Wood thrown out at second.

The third inning was also scoreless for both teams with Abby Elmore being the only base runner. She reached on a hard hit single down the left field line.

In the fourth, Barren extended its lead significantly with Wood starting the rally as she reached first on an infield error. A mishandled bunt and throw then allowed for Barren to get runners on second and third. A perfectly placed bunt by sophomore Natalie Staples drove in a run and left  runners at first and third.

Another bunt and an error allowed another run for the Trojanettes and the small ball put Barren ahead 4-0.

A groundball out by senior Maggie Bellamy drove in the fourth run of the inning. Then  the aggressive base running that put the Trojanettes ahead four runs ended the inning with the base runner being picked off at third.

The Lady Spartans were again shut out in the fifth inning by Logsdon

In the bottom of the inning, Logsdon tripled down the right field line. Two walks loaded the bases and an errant throw to first scored two more for the Trojanettes, putting them ahead 6-0.

It wasn’t until the top of the sixth that South Warren scored its first run as a pinch hitter ended up scoring a runner from second.

Then a hard hit double off of the left center fence drove in two more, getting the Spartans back into the game 6-3.

However, the game was all but sealed in the bottom of the sixth as Logsdon smoked the ball over the right field fence for her second time touching them all.

She was 3 for 4 at the plate with two home runs and a triple for the ball game.

South Warren managed to score two more runs in the seventh, but eventually a ground out to second stopped the game with Logsdon going all seven innings.
