Brad Bonds, the head girls’ basketball coach at Allen County-Scottsville, let out a big sigh of relief after watching his Lady Patriots knock off Barren County 45-28 Tuesday night in the first round of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association District 15 Girls Basketball Tournament at Barren County High School.
“We weren’t as sharp in the half-court tonight as I would have liked for us to have been and you can chalk that up to a lot of factors,” said Bonds. “Our kids are young and inexperienced, and this was a big game for them. You know we had to play this game a little different than we have in the past because we’ve been the underdog a lot of times. But this year we’ve come in as the favorite.
“And that tends to psych you out sometimes. But when things weren’t really falling for us in the half-court offense tonight, the girls started picking things up in transition. We struggled offensively;, I will just be honest with you.”
The Lady Patriots will play Glasgow in Friday’s district championship game. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
