ACS Patriots stun Monroe County

GLASGOW — The Allen County-Scottsville Patriots used a 10-0 run to open the second half and then hung on for a 48-45 victory over Monroe County Monday night in the first round of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association District 15 Basketball Tournament at Barren County High School. The win was the first time ACS has beaten the Falcons this season.

“Finally the hard-headed coach realized we couldn’t speed them up and play them man to man, so we had to play some zone tonight,” said Allen County-Scottsville coach James Willett. “The guys were really patient with it, they executed it and they trusted it. And I thought we did a good job on the glass tonight, came up with really big rebounds.”

“We started the game off with Dillon Geralds making the first three 3-pointers he shot. But then, he missed the next five,” said Monroe County coach Steven Kirkpatrick. “Tonight, we just didn’t shoot the ball well. And I have been really concerned about that all year, how would we react if we had a game where we didn’t shoot the ball well.”

The Patriots will play Barren County on Thursday at 7 p.m.
