Witcher named volleyball coach at GHS

GLASGOW — Tammy Witcher is coming back home.

The Glasgow Independent School Board approved the hiring of Witcher as the new volleyball coach at Glasgow High School during a board meeting Monday night. Witcher will be taking over a position she previously held at the school during the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

“So, because I knew some of the players on this year’s volleyball team, when I heard the job became available I knew it was something I wanted to pursue,” said Witcher, who also teaches physical education at the high school. “And I realized I missed coaching.”

Witcher will take over for Lauren Shelton, who resigned as head coach after this past season. The Lady Scotties were a combined 6-45 over the last two years after going 29-12 in 2010. Under Witcher, the Lady Scotties finished 10-34-1.

Witcher said she is excited about what lies ahead, but she knows there is work to be done.

“I watched some of the matches last year and I think this team has a lot of potential. We have, I think, six seniors coming back next year and I think one of the main areas I am going to focus on next year is team unity, working together and having fun,” said Witcher. “We also want to make sure the players have confidence, confidence in themselves.”
