Trojans win, Trojanettes fall against Hart County

GLASGOW — Barren County split a pair of games at Hart County on Friday night. The Trojans won the late game, 62-50, over the host Raiders, while the Trojanettes dropped the early game to the Lady Raiders, 52-47.

In the boys’ game, Barren took the lead in the first quarter and held that lead at the end of each quarter.

The Trojans posted a 18-10 advantage at the end of the opening period. They led by double digits at halftime, 34-24.

The lead was nine points after three quarters, 42-33, and 12 points by the end of the contest.

Dalton Bush led the Trojans with 23 points, while Jaucoby Poore scored 14. Also scoring for Barren were Ben Leftwich with eight points, Charley McCoy and Barrett Billingsley with five apiece, Clay Simmons with three and Bo Hubbard finished with two points.

Justin Riffle led Hart County with 28 points, while Tailor Lile added five.

The Trojanettes came up short in a back-and-forth game in Munfordville after being outscored 21-13 in the fourth quarter.

Barren trailed by one at the end of the first quarter, but led 22-18 at halftime and 34-31 after three quarters.

Deanie Pedigo led the Trojanettes with 16 points and was one of four freshman players to score in the game. Kelsey Cummings and Kelsay Manion each scored nine points, while freshmen Kennedy Logsdon and Taylor Davis, and Kaitlyn Wyatt posted three points each, freshman Reanna Poynter and Kenzie Arterburn finished with two points apiece.

Trojanettes head coach John Butler said the same issue that has plagued his team this season also played a role in Friday’s game – turnovers.

“We had 28 turnovers. We outrebounded them 38-26, but you can’t win having that many turnovers,” he said.

“The kids are playing hard, but we’re just making too many mistakes,” Butler said. “We’re inexperienced. We did have four freshmen who scored.”

Cummings, Manion and Wyatt are the only three seniors on the team.
