Two Barren County High School anglers missed qualifying for state competition by less than a pound at the recent Region 3 Bass Fishing Tournament at Lake Cumberland.
Hunter Harper and Christopher Samaras caught two fish weighing 5 pounds, 13 ounces, which placed them 16th in the regional tournament. The top 15 teams from the region qualified for the upcoming state tournament, according to information from the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
Corey Frye and Andrew Ford of Southwestern High School won the region by catching five fish that weighed 15 pounds, 8 ounces.
Four other teams also competed for Barren County. Joshua Brown and Dillon Gibbons caught two fish weighing 4 pounds, 6 ounces; Cade Waldrop and Hunter Williams caught two fish weighing 3 pounds, 4 ounces; Colton Eaton and Trenton McGuire caught one fish weighing 2 pounds, 1 ounce; and Drake Stephens and Sawyer Matthews had no qualifying catches.
Monroe County also had competitors in the tournament, led by Jordan Jones and Hunter Madison, who caught two fish that weighed 2 pounds, 3 ounces. Zack Hollinsworth and Winn Ellis had no qualifying catches.
