PREP TENNIS: Barren, Glasgow split match

GLASGOW — Barren County hosted Glasgow in boys and girls tennis Wednesday.

The Lady Scotties downed the host Trojanettes 4-1, while the Trojans beat the Scotties 5-3.

Barren won three of the five singles and two of the three doubles matches to secure the boys’ win.

Glasgow did get a win in No. 1 singles as Foster Vann defeated Grant Gardner 6-1, 2-6, 1-0. Barren’s Tristan Shaw downed Brian Sadler in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1.

Also, Jeremiah Russell defeated Dalton Bishop 9-8 and Randal Parmley downed Nick Stone 8-3 to give the Trojans the advantage. Glasgow’s Nick Morosa beat Caleb Mesker 8-2 in No. 3 singles.

In No. 1 doubles, Barren’s Hayden Rickard and Ethan Kiteck teamed to beat Ashab Ahmed and Cody Jones, 6-3, 6-3. Trent Bosse and Adam Garrett teamed to win No. 2 doubles for Glasgow, beating Brandon Witty and Michael Belcher 6-4, 6-4.

Belcher and Witty beat Glasgow’s Stuart Dickinson and Brian Sadler 8-3 in No. 3 doubles.

Glasgow won all three of the girls’ singles matches to secure the team win.

Sloan Bull defeated Rebecca Hurley 4-6, 6-0 and 11-9 in a tie-break set. Palmer Lessenberry swept Hope Deckard 6-0, 6-0 and Brooklyn Brown defeated Madison Kerley 8-4.

In No. 1 doubles, Barren picked up a win in epic fashion. Brooke Simmons and Danielle Nunn teamed to defeat Morgan Mills and Pooja Santapuram 6-4, 6-6 (5-7) and 11-9 in a tie-break set.

Glasgow’s twin sisters Madison and Blair Correll downed Ralee Vincent and Courtney Lyons 8-3 in the second doubles match.

In exhibition singles, Glasgow’s Blair Correll defeated Maggie Casteel 8-0 and Madison Correll beat Kenzie Gentry 8-1.

In exhibition doubles, Emmalee Lawrence and HollyAnn Carter team to beat Mackenzie Ballard and Aubree Turner 8-0.

Tennis players from Glasgow and Barren County will open regional tournament action Saturday at Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green.

Gardner is the No. 5 seed in singles and plays at 9 a.m. Saturday. Shaw plays at 10, while Vann plays at 11 and Sadler plays at 11:30 a.m.

In doubles, Rickard and Kiteck are the five-seed and will play at 12:30 p.m. Belcher and Witty play at 9 a.m., while Ahmed and Jones play at 10:30 a.m., and Bosse and Garrett play at 12:30 p.m.

In the girls’ tournament, Blair Correll and Megan Jones are the seven-seed in doubles and play at 11 a.m. Mill and Santapuram play at noon. For Barren, Nunn and Brooke Simmons play at 12:30 p.m., and Brie Simmons and Mallie Wells play at 9 a.m.
