BARREN COUNTY BASEBALL: Trojans rally to beat Falcons

GLASGOW — Barren County rallied to beat Monroe County on Thursday for its first district baseball win of the season.

The Trojans trailed the Falcons 7-5 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, then faced two outs before kicking in their winning.

Britt Crabtree drew a walk and he moved to second on a pass ball. Clay Groce drove in Crabtree with a single to right center field.

Andrew Hughes followed with a single. He and Groce then executed a double steal to put runners at second and third.

Grayson Hyatt came to the plate, his bat went to a full count, then he slapped a single to left field that drove in both Groce and Hughes to win the game 8-7.

Crabtree got the win on the mound after replacing reliever Hunter Carroll. He struck out four Falcon batters, walked four and allowed one hit. Carroll and starter Andrew Baise each pitched an inning.

Monroe posted five runs through the first two innings to take an early 5-2 lead.

Barren chipped away at the lead by scoring a run each in the third and fourth innings.

Monroe responded with a run each in the fifth and sixth innings and Barren added a run in the bottom of the sixth to be down 7-5 after six innings.

In the first inning, Crabtree drove in Cole Payne with a single.

Groce slapped a solo home run in the second.

Barrett Billingsley scored in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Payne.

In the sixth inning, Hughes scored on a single by Billingsley.

Barren improved to 12-11 overall and 1-2 in the 15th District. Monroe fell to 6-6 and 0-3.

Monroe is scheduled to Metcalfe County at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Stanley Poland Wood Bat Classic at home. They will play Hart County at 6 p.m.

Barren’s next game on the schedule is 5 p.m. Monday at home against South Warren.
