GLASGOW — The Glasgow boys’ tennis team edged Caverna 5-4 Thursday at Gorin Park.

The Scotties were led by their doubles teams, which won all their of their matchups.

On court 1 doubles, Cody Jones and Ashab Ahmed continued to play well as they won over Caverna’s Malcolm Bowman and Jackson Bennett in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.

Trent Bosse and Stuart Dickinson won on court 2 doubles over Sam Bowman and Travis Middleton 7-5, 6-3.

On court 3 doubles, Nicholas Morosa and Brian Sadler combined to defeat Justin Sturgeon and Zack Reed in a pro set 8-1.

In singles competition, on court 1 Foster Vann played hard and stayed close in every game before losing 2-8 to Caverna’s Malcolm Bowman, according to Glasgow coach Joe Downing. On court 2, Sadler lost to Bennett by the same score.

Glasgow’s Adam Garrett secured the Scottie’s a single win in No. 3 singles as he defeated Sam Bowman 8-3 and then Morosa won over his opponent, Middleton, 8-0.

On court 4, Dalton Bishop played a close match against Tyler Reed before falling 8-9 in a tiebreaker; then on court 6, Nick Stone lost to Caverna’s Woody Boles 2-8.

“Finally a warm evening for tennis,” Downing said. “This was a really fun match. We match up well against Caverna and have some really close matches.

“I was really pleased with our doubles tonight as all three courts played very well. Even though we lost 4 of 6 singles courts, most matches were close and could have gone either way.”

“We continue to make improvements and everyone is enjoying playing tennis,” Downing said. “We have a really tough two weeks coming up as we hit the meat of our schedule and play 9 or10 matches. Hopefully we can continue to get better and keep on having fun.”

“This has been a great season so far,” the coach said. “I have a great group of boys and we have a really supportive group of parents and the stands have been full and that is unusual for tennis.”

Both the boys’ and the girls’ tennis teams are scheduled to play Monday. The boys will be at Monroe County at 4:30 p.m. The girls will host Monroe at 4 p.m.
