The Glasgow High School boys’ tennis team evened its season record at 4-4 Tuesday at Franklin-Simpson.
Despite rain in Glasgow, the weather in Franklin was clear and cold as the Scotties won eight of nine matches. Foster Vann won on court 1 singles over Brady Murray 8-6, Brian Sadler lost on court 2 to Brennan Thacker 8-6 and Adam Garrett won on court 3 over Clark Fector 8-6. In addition, Ashab Ahmed defeated Chase Johnson 8-1; Trent Bosse defeated Shivan Chapinera 8-6 and Stuart Dickinson won in a tiebreaker over Mitril Patel 9-8.
In doubles, Ahmed and Cody Jones won on court 1 over Murray and Thacker 8-6; on court 2, Trent Bosse and Dickinson defeated Fector and Johnson 8-5; and on court 3 Garrett and Sadler beat Glenn and Johnson 8-0.
“I moved several people around tonight,” said Glasgow coach Joe Downing. “I want to give my young team more opportunities to play different types of matches. I was really pleased with everyone’s efforts. Everyone seemed to really enjoy playing tonight, even in the cold. We are entering the toughest part of our schedule and need to start getting prepared for regional play.”
Meanwhile, the Glasgow girls’ tennis team also was victorious Tuesday night, beating Franklin-Simpson 7-2.
In singles action, Victoria Watson defeated Callie Wilson 8-5, Kaylie Howard won a tiebreaker set 7-5 over Jessica Mayhew, McKenzie Frasier defeated Cynthia Bunton 8-6 and Madison Correll beat Amber Irwin 8-1.
Glasgow also won all three doubles matches. Frasier and Correll teamed to defeat Wilson and Mayhew 6-1; Howard and Lindsey Webb downed Kelsey Keen and Askins 6-1; and Reagan Bowles and Grayson Botts beat Robbins and Doyle 6-0.
In singles, Webb and Kira Harvey dropped their sets.
Glasgow’s tennis teams return to action Thursday at Gorin Park at 4 p.m. against Caverna.
