Comeback

Lady Scotties rally to win South Warren Invitational

GLASGOW — After finishing a disappointing sixth in the Taylor County Golf Invitational last Saturday, the Glasgow High School Lady Scotties came roaring back to win the South Warren Invitational on Monday in Bowling Green.

The Glasgow girls shot a team total of 339 and knocked off Green County in a sudden death playoff.

“I thought they did a good job of course management and keeping their heads today,” said Glasgow coach Kellie Lee. “They (the course) had almost lost their greens (to the heat) and it was tough to read the greens and judge speed today. But the girls didn’t get frustrated.”

Emily Alexander led the Lady Scotties’ charge with a 77. Taylor Phelps followed that with an 83 and Ashton Foushee fired an 85.

Katie Jones carded a 94, while Emmalee Lawrence wrapped up the Glasgow scoring with a 96.

The Lady Scotties will ride the wave of victory into the district tournament on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Barren River State Park. Tee time is 4 p.m.

“I have always been confident in the girls,” said Lee, who thinks district foe Allen County will be a contender for the tournament title. “This win should give the girls some personal confidence as they head into the district tournament.”

The Lady Scotties finished sixth out of 11 teams at the Taylor County Invitational. Lee declined to report the individual scores from that tournament.
