Falcons take over against Hornets

GLASGOW — In a game that started well for the Metcalfe County volleyball team, the Hornets quickly saw their season end at home with a three-set loss to a strong Monroe County (25-2-4) team.

“We started out playing pretty well, but then we didn’t do a really good job of blocking and the scores showed it,” said Metcalfe head coach Amber Steele of the 25-15, 25-14, 25-12 shutout in the Region 4 Volleyball Tournament.

Keeping up on defense is something the team is going to have to improve upon next year without the help of four seniors, three of whom were starters. Miranda Devore, Brandi Garalds, Kyndil Wilson and Sarah Garrett depart the team with this tournament.

Despite Monday’s loss, the seniors leave with a winning record of 15-10 on the season.

The three junior starters and one sophomore who have been on the team will have to help the Hornets rebuild next year and Steele is confident they can, she said after Monday night’s game.

No other stats were available from the game and requests for comment from Monroe County coaches were not returned by deadline.
