The Glasgow Lady Scotties put three players in double figures Saturday night when they rolled over Covington Holmes 57-29 in the Lady Defender Classic at Bryan Station High School in Lexington.
Glasgow took control early and never let up as the Lady Scotties controled the pace of the game from the opening tip. The Lady Scotties led 21-9 at the end of the first period and 31-20 at the intermission. Glasgow outscored Covington Holmes 16-8 in the third period to take a 47-28 advantage into the final quarter..
"It was a nice win for us. Covington Holmes is a very athletic team and they showed great pressure on defense," said Glasgow coach Justin Stinson. "However, I was very proud of how the girls attacked the pressure. Emily Alexander, I thought, played very well and Bree Glover had a lot of assists and did a real good job of distributing the basketball."
Glover led the Glasgow charge with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Alexander chipped in with 14 points and Elli Bartley had 11. Ashley Smith scored seven points, Shalika Smith scored six and Heidi Holgate tallied four points.
"Shalika was in early foul trouble tonight and probably only played six or eight minutes," Stinson added. "But Heidi Holgate got a lot of good minutes in for us and did a good job in Shalika's absence.
"This was the third win in a week over three very good teams. We're very pleased to be 4-0 on the year."
The Glasgow girls will visit Logan County on Tuesday before traveling Friday to face Monroe County. Tipoff is 6 p.m.
