BOWLING GREEN —
After hearing her team would advance to Saturday’s final round of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Girls State Golf Tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club, Glasgow High School golf coach Kellie Lee had to fight back the tears.
With seniors Emily Alexander, Taylor Phelps and Ashton Foushee playing in their last state tournament as a Lady Scottie, Lee and all of the Glasgow nation wanted to make sure the GHS trio made it to the second day of competition.
“It is so special to be able to send Taylor, Emily and Ashton into the finals,” said Lee. “All this week we’ve tried to live in the moment, not think about the season coming to a close. It has been wonderful.
“I have such a great group of seniors and they’ve been great role models to the younger golfers. Glasgow has had a long tradition of great girls playing great golf and they’ve certainly continued that tradition.”
The Lady Scotties finished with a team total of 342, good enough for 10th in the final field of 11.
