Glasgow High School Baseball Coach Sam Royse has always been an advocate of the premise that successful baseball requires that a team pitch well, hit the ball well and play good defense. Tuesday, the Scotties found success in all three categories as they knocked off Bellbrook, Ohio 5-1, in the Florida Baseball Beach Bash.
JT Green led the way on the mound for the Scotties, allowing only one run on three hits. He walked none and struck out eight. At the plate, Carlos Morrison led the Glasgow charge with two hits in four trips to the plate, including a three-run homer and four runs batted in.
Bellbrook scored its only run in the top of the first inning. But Glasgow quickly responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning to tie it at 1-1. Ryan Hinkley singled and went to second on a passed ball. He later scored on a single by Morrison.
The Scotties got another run in the second to make it 2-1 when Josh Boggs singled with two outs. He stole second base and then scored on a double by Hinkley.
