While some coaches prepare their teams with elaborate scouting reports and secretive schemes, David ‘Poppy’ Franklin is keeping it simple for his squad. Franklin, the head coach of the Glasgow 12-Under Little League All-Stars, said the key to his team’s chances of winning next week’s district tournament boils down to one thing – pitching.
“We will go as far as pitching will take us. That’s the key,” Franklin said. “If we go over there and throw strikes, we’ve got a good shot at making a run at the district title.
“We have to throw strikes and I have preached that for the last five or six weeks. According to Little League rules, your pitcher can only throw 85 pitches for the tournament before taking a four-day rest. So, you have to make the most of every pitch.”
The tournament, hosted by South Hardin Little League, will begin Saturday in Cecilia. Glasgow will play the final game of the first round, facing Russell County at 5 p.m. CST.
