'Hot' Monroe County visits Barren County Friday

GLASGOW — If a team’s record were a true indication of how well that team was playing, then Monroe County High School’s 8-7 tally would probably not strike much fear in the hearts of basketball coaches in southcentral Kentucky.

However, records often don’t tell the whole story. The Falcons are just over .500 on the season, but Monroe County has won three of its last five games and four of the Falcons’ losses have been under 10 points, including a three-point loss to Bowling Green last week.

“We’ve cut down on our turnovers in the last few games,” said Monroe County coach Steve Kirkpatrick. “We set a goal at the beginning of the year to have 10 or fewer turnovers a game and over the past four or five games, we’re averaging around seven turnovers.”

Kirkpatrick hopes his team can keep up the good work as the  Falcons visit Barren County on Friday for a big District 15 contest. Monroe County is 1-2 in district competition, while the Trojans are 12-4 on the year and 3-0 in league play.
