HORSE CAVE —
Robin McMurtrey had a big smile on her face after her Barren County High School Trojanettes picked up their first volleyball victory of the season Thursday night at Caverna. BCHS led from the beginning and picked up a 3-0 victory with scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-18 in the finale.
“It wasn’t pretty, but we will take it,” said McMurtrey after the match. “I was pleased with our play at Monroe County on Tuesday because we quit thinking about what we were doing and just started playing.
“These kids have the mechanics, they have the skill, just play. If they miss one play, they miss the next four because they’re thinking about the first one they missed. The first two games tonight we weren’t thinking about it. We started thinking about it in the third game and I had to get on them. We needed that win.”
Caverna battled the Trojanettes throughout the contest, leading briefly in the first and third games of the match. Stephanie Taylor, Caverna’s first-year coach, was pleased with the effort her team gave Thursday night.
