Trojanettes go 1-2 at Woodford County

GLASGOW — The Barren County softball team picked up a 9-0 victory over Nicholas County but dropped contests to Graves County and Louisville’s Holy Cross during the Woodford County Spring Break Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Versailles.

Makenzie Wells’ pitching performance Saturday spurred the Trojanettes to a 9-0 win in six innings over Nicholas County. Wells struck out nine and gave up two hits in the shutout.

Meanwhile, Barren County scored nine runs in the first three innings. A groundout by Brilee Houchens, an error and a two-run single by Amber Jones in the first inning was followed by a wild pitch, an RBI single by Shelby Wood, an RBI single by Abby Elmore and an RBI single by Jones in the second inning.

Jones had three RBIs on two hits for Barren County. Kennedy Samson and Kennedy Logsdon each singled, while Hannah Ward drew three walks.

Graves County 2, Barren County 0

Wells struck out two and allowed four hits in six innings Friday, but the Trojanettes couldn’t generate enough offense to get past the Lady Eagles.

Casey Wade recorded the win for Graves County, tossing seven shutout innings. Wade struck out eight, walked one and gave up five hits.

The game was never in doubt after the fifth, when Graves County scored two runs on a two-run single by Lindsey Whitlock.

Barren County had five hits. Katy Bridges, Elmore, Jones, Maggie Bellamy had one single each. Logsdon had a double.

Holy Cross 16, Barren County 0

Holy Cross scored five runs in the first inning Saturday and cruised past the Trojanettes from there.

Holy Cross pitcher Morgan Gailor struck out eight, walked three and gave up three hits in four innings. Barren County’s hits came from Hannah Ward, Cheyenne Cumberland and Hadleigh Hammer.

Samson took the loss for Barren County.

The Trojanettes are now 6-4 on the season and are scheduled to play at Glasgow at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
