Scotties sting in rout of Hornets

GLASGOW — The Glasgow sideline was a bit quiet in the opening quarter on Friday night, but that quickly changed as the Scotties (7-2, 3-0) scored 49 unanswered points in their 49-0 shutout victory over the Metcalfe County Hornets, as the Scotties claimed the district title for the third consecutive year.

The Scotties fell victim to the penalty bug in the first quarter, as they were forced to punt on their opening possession, which included a jet sweep touchdown by Gary Settles, which was called back due to an offensive hold.

However, the Scotties would regroup and score on an 11-yard run by Quentel Bradley at the 11:41 mark of the second quarter.

The run game would be the theme of the night for the Scotties, as the offensive line opened gaping holes for the tailbacks, but also opened up play action for quarterback Ryan Hinkley.

“Metcalfe has got some good young players and Freddie [Harbison] has done a tremendous job,” head coach Rick Wood said. “They are physical upfront and they are really playing hard. I’m telling you, they are an up-and-coming team. They played really well early.”
