The Metcalfe County High School Lady Hornets finished second earlier this week at the District 16 Volleyball Tournament at Clinton County High School.
Metcalfe County opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Clinton County in the tournament semifinals.
The Lady Bulldogs won the first game 25-23, but the Lady Hornets answered with victories in the next three games.
Metcalfe County won 25-21, 25-17 and 25-19. The victory put the Lady Hornets in the tournament finals and secured a spot for them in next week’s Region 4 tournament in Edmonton.
“We won the match with Clinton County, but we really had to fight to do it,” said Metcalfe County coach Amber Steele. “At the beginning of the season, Clinton County didn’t cover the middle of the floor very well and that’s kind of the approach we took going into the tournament.
“But they did a good job of covering that area in the tournament. So, we had to change out tactics.”
But the Lady Hornets’ luck ran out in the tourney final against Russell County.
