Faulkner scores 28 in Caverna win; Trojans lose

GLASGOW — Madison Faulkner scored 28 points last Saturday to lead the Caverna High School Lady Colonels to a 59-47 victory over Western Hills in the Centria Metals/Staxx BBQ Shootout at Franklin County High School in Frankfort.

The Lady Colonels got off to a slow start and actually trailed Western Hills 12-7 at the end of the first period. Caverna rallied to outscore WHHS 20-3 in the second quarter to take a 27-15 advantage into the locker room.

Behind Faulkner’s game-high 28 points, Ciarra Waggoner scored nine points and Shonda Bradley had eight. Kiara Kirk scored six points, with Nicole Bradley and Callee Carter tallying four points each.

Caverna is scheduled to be back on the court Tuesday at Bethlehem. The Lady Colonels will host Hart County on Friday.

Monroe County boys improve to 9-4

The Monroe County Falcons put three players in double figures last Saturday in a 67-54 victory over Hart County in the fifth place game at the Lindsey Wilson College Holiday Classic in Columbia.

Gibril Summers led the Monroe County charge with 16 points. Dillon Geralds scored 11 points and John Austin Geralds had 10. Devin Gearlds and Skyler Geralds scored eight points each. Garrett Crowe had three points, while Noah Curtis, Lincoln Arnett, Will Goodman and Caleb Veach scored two points each. Kale Rich scored one point as did Trey Isenberg and Kolton Myatt.

“I am pretty pleased with the way we’re playing right now. I really like how we’re playing with the team concept and we’re looking for each other on the floor,” said Monroe County coach Steven Kirkpatrick. “But we still have things to work on.”

The Falcons’ game with Edmonson County scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled. Monroe County will be in district action Friday when the Falcons visit Allen County-Scottsville.

Colonels close LWC Classic with victory

The Caverna High School Colonels closed out last weekend’s Lindsey Wilson College Holiday Classic in Columbia with a 57-46 victory over Todd County Central.

The Colonels, who opened the tournament with losses to South Oldham and Monroe County, were led in scoring by Mason Faulkner. Faulkner had 30 points and 12 rebounds in the winning effort. He also had 24 points and 10 rebounds against South Oldham and 30 points against Monroe County.

“(At this point of the season) I am pretty pleased with a .500 record (6-7) considering the teams we’ve played and the fact we actually held leads late in some of our losses,” said Caverna coach Blake Button. “Well, I am actually not happy with the record, but I know it could be worse.

“We’re not playing very good defense right now. We didn’t play a lot of defense against South Oldham and against Monroe County, (second game of the day) we were tired. We finally decided to play defense in the second half against Todd County Central.”

Devon Paul scored 12 points in the Colonels’ game against Monroe County and Mark Dice had 15 points against Todd County Central.
