Scotties win their own golf invitational

GLASGOW — Glasgow’s boys golf team picked up a tournament win Saturday by posting a team score of 305 in the Scottie Invitational Tournament.

The Scotties’ A team edged Allen County-Scottsville by two strokes (305-307). Barren County finished 12th in the 17-team field, while Monroe County (331) was 11th and Metcalfe County (347) was 16th.

“What an awesome performance by the Scottie boys’ golf team,” wrote Glasgow head coach Mike Harris in an e-mail.

Steely Harris led the Scotties with an even-par 71, which was good for second place individually. Adair County’s Alex Durham won the tournament with a one-under 70.

Chase Landrum of Glasgow tied for fourth with a 72, while Michael Harris shot 80, Dalton Fant posted an 82, Thomas Kingery shot 87.

Other Glasgow golfers included Bryce Logsdon (91), Foster Vann (95), Dylan Lane (95), Cody Jones (99), Trey Doty (114), Cole Swafford (125), Jansen Dakin (147), Gabe Wallace (148) and Payne Flatt (149).

Matt Turner led Barren County with a 74, while Nathan Layton shot 84, Alex Morgerson posted an 85, Mark Shipley shot 89 and Garrett Wyatt finished with a 92.

Glasgow will have Senior Day for golfers Tuesday with a match against Cumberland County and will play in the Region 3 Tournament on Sept. 25 at Hidden Hills Country Club in Tompkinsville.

Saturday’s invitational included some of the top regional teams, including Bowling Green and Greenwood.
