The Caverna Colonels girls played a great game against the Green County Dragons Friday night, knocking off the Lady Dragons for a big 62-55 district win.
Although the Dragons led in the first quarter, the Colonels ended up outscoring them. The Green County Dragons led with 14-8 at the end of the first period. The Lady Colonels came roaring back, outscoring Green County 19-12 in the second quarter to take a 27-26 advantage at the intermission.
Ciara Waggoner led the Lady Colonels in scoring with 25 points. Madison Faulkner scored 20 points, Kiara Kirk scored 8 points, Shanda Bradley scored 7 and Stashia Edwards scored 2.
Cornelius Falkner, Caverna girl’s coach, said it was a great effort made by the team.
“Green County is one of the better teams,” the coach said. “We had great offense. As a team, we had 36 rebounds. We made 10 out of 19 free throws and had 12 assists. And we shared the ball well.”
Hornets lose to Clinton County, 70-33
Clinton County boy Bulldogs scored more than twice the amount of points as the Metcalfe County Hornets on Friday, beating the Hornets, 70-33.
During the first quarter, the Hornets could manage only 10 points and trailed 16-10 as the second period began.
The Bulldogs continued to pour on the offense and took a 33-16 advantage into the locker room.
Metcalfe County Hornets coach David Clemmons said that Clinton County is a good ball team.
“We had several turnovers,” Clemmons said. “We competed at the first half. It seemed like the last four minutes of the second quarter, we couldn’t score. It went downhill from there.”
Scotties fall to Russell County
