Barren County fell to Webster County by a 40-30 clip in the final day of the LDB Holiday Classic on Tuesday.
The Trojans (2-10) lost two of their three games in the tournament, which was hosted by Grayson County.
“We had a lot of trouble putting the ball in the basket,” Barren coach Warren Cunningham said. “For about three and a half quarters it was a one or two possession game most of the way. The pushed it out at the end when we had to foul them to try to get back in it.”
Barren led 5-4 after the first quarter before Webster outscored the Trojans 13-7 in the second quarter to take a 17-12 lead at the half.
Barren cut the lead to four entering the fourth quarter but couldn’t inch any closer. The Trojans trailed 28-24 early in the fourth quarter when they got a steal, but missed the layup that would have made it a one possession game.
“We had several cracks at it, but we just couldn’t hit the shots,” Cunningham said. “We got some pretty good looks at the basket and couldn’t take advantage of it.”
Zach Gibson led the Trojans with 19 points and Ben Hubbard pitched in with 10.
The Trojans shot well from the foul line for the second straight game, hitting 10-of-14 free throws on the night. Barren also played solid defense according to its coach.
“I thought we played really good defense,” Cunningham said. “They had quite a bit of size and we did a pretty good job on them actually.”
Barren returns home Friday to face cross-town rival Glasgow in a district tilt. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
