DANVILLE - No. 7 Danville put up 518 yards of offense in a 45-6 win over Glasgow in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs on Friday.

The Scotties pulled to within three of the Admirals in the first quarter before the home team pulled away for the win.

“We knew it was going to be tough,” Glasgow coach Billy Lindsey said. “They’ve got an outstanding football team. Again, they might not be as strong as they have been in the past. I think coach (Sam) Harp there has won five or six state championships, so they’ve had some real good teams. But they’re still an outstanding football team.”

The Admirals got on the scoreboard on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Trae Grey to Will Dunn for a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter. Danville added a 30-yard field goal from Max Meckes for a 9-0 lead with 6:15 left in the frame.

But the Scotties came back quickly as Tavion Parrish scored on a 4-yard run to cap a three play, 71 yard drive just over a minute later. Tyler Lindsey’s two point conversion pass to John Allen couldn’t be held and Glasgow trailed 9-6 with 5:05 left in the opening quarter.

“We felt like we made a little statement at least that we were going to try to stay with them,” Lindsey said. “But they were just a big play type of offense and we weren’t able to contain them enough and not keep the ball away from them.”

Danville added to its lead less than a minute later on a 49-yard touchdown pass from Grey to Kruz Warner that extended the lead to 16-6.

Grey added to his team’s lead on the ground, capping a seven play 86-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The quarterback ran it in from two yards out later in the frame as the Admirals built a 31-6 lead at the half.

Antwoine Simon scored on a 4-yard run at the 5:17 mark of the third quarter for a 38-6 lead.

Danville’s final score came on an 8-yard run from Jacody Taylor in the fourth quarter.

“Our guys came in there and I thought they played better, they played hard, but we lost to a better football team,” Lindsey said.

Parrish led Glasgow’s ground attack with 21 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Lindsey threw for 137 yards on 11-of-21 passing. LaJuan Smith caught six passes for 74 yards, both team highs, and John Allen had two receptions for 66 yards.

Simon led Danville with 130 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Taylor added 81 yards and a score on the ground. Grey threw for 201 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 28 yards and two scores.

The Admirals (8-3) move on to the second round of the playoffs on Friday when they host No. 8 Green County. The Dragons (9-2) defeated Washington County, 52-24, in their first round game.

Glasgow ends its season at 0-11, which sets the school’s single-season record for losses.
