Metcalfe beats Caverna Monroe shutout by Allen County Staff report Glasgow Daily Times GLASGOW — Metcalfe and Monroe counties ended their seasons in exact opposite ways Friday night.
The Hornets shutout Caverna, while Monroe was held scoreless by undefeated Allen County-Scottsville. Metcalfe overcame seven fumbles, two of which they lost, to dominate Caverna offensively and seal its 2009 record at 4-6. Running back Jesse Jones gave Metcalfe its first lead with 4:20 left in the first quarter when he scored from six yards out. A pass from Luke Saunders to Kyle Holley on the two-point conversion extended Metcalfe’s lead to 8-0. Holley increased the Hornet lead when he rushed for a 26-yard touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the half. The senior added another touchdown with 7:17 left in the third to give Metcalfe a 22-0 lead. Neither team was able to reach the end zone in the fourth quarter, however, giving Metcalfe a 22-0 victory. Jones led the Hornets offensively, rushing 12 times for 112 yards and a touchdown. Colton Satterly added 92 yards on the ground while Holley ran for 72. Metcalfe rushed for 274 yards as a team, its highest output of the season. Jones’ 112 yards marks the first time an individual Hornet has rushed for more than 100 yards this season. Defensively, Metcalfe held the Colonels to just three first downs. Shea McCoy recovered two Caverna fumbles and compiled 10 tackles on the night. The loss drops Caverna to 1-9 on the season. Since beating North Hardin Christian 38-36 on Sept. 5, the Colonels have gone 0-6 (not counting a forfeit to Kentucky Country Day) and have scored just 24 points. Monroe’s offense was slowed by rain and Allen County defenders Friday night, as the Falcons’ fell to the Patriots 7-0. Monroe amassed just 75 total yards in the loss. Dillion Vickery led Monroe with 34 rushing yards. Neil Wilson added 26 on the ground. Wilson and starting quarterback Jackson Arnett combined to go 2-6 through the air for 17 yards. The Falcons managed only nine first half yards and didn’t get a first down until well into the third quarter.
