Glasgow was unable to avenge earlier losses of 10-0 and 4-1 at the hands of the powerful Trojan scoring machine as Barren County’s boys soccer team celebrated Senior Night in style, handing Glasgow an 8-0 shutout loss in the final regular season game.

The Trojans (13-5) got a hat trick from senior forward Caleb Bogard and two goals from junior forward Dillon Clark en route to the easy victory over a Glasgow team that has endured six consecutive losses and nine of their last ten games.

“It wasn’t that many years ago that the score was like this in Glasgow’s favor,” said Trojans coach Laurence Nyekan in regards to the lopsided win. “The boys were really excited about this game tonight because we are playing our last (regular) season game and also playing against our rival.”

The Trojans defense, led by seniors Nathan Emmert, Gregory Matthews and Michael Toms were so effective at stopping the Scotties attack that Glasgow didn’t even record a shot on goal until the game’s 58th minute, with the score already 5-0 in the Trojans favor.

Clark’s first goal came as he tapped in a ball that was mishandled by Scotties goalkeeper Scott Zettlemoyer. Bogard added the Trojan’s second score, tallying off a corner kick placed nicely at his feet by Max Edison. Freshman Tyler Hammer took a fine pass from Jorge Gama, and blasted the ball through the hands of Zettlemoyer and into the upper net to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead going into the half.

Bogard stole the show in the second half adding two goals and an assist, while Clark’s second score, his district leading 27th goal of the season, put the game out of reach in the game’s 68th minute. Senior Kevin Cheely and sophomore Taylor Austin also added second half tallies for the Trojans.

“If we can play unselfish, and play well like this, then we can go a long way,” Nyekan said of his team’s postseason chances.

The Trojans outshot the Scotties 23-2, including a 14 shot barrage in the first half before Nyekan began substituting some reserve players into the rotation. Trojans goalkeeper Cade Lowry recorded his fifth complete game shutout in goal.

The Scotties had a scary moment in the game’s 55th minute when Barren County’s Tyler Hammer blasted a shot on goal that struck Scotties defender Trevor Likens square in the face.

“He’s a real tough kid,” Glasgow coach C.J. Zettlemoyer said. “He wanted to go right back in the game, but it was probably best that he took the rest of the half off.”

Likens and fellow Glasgow defenders Ellis Centers and Chandler Taylor tried in vain the entire game to stop the dynamic duo of Bogard and Clark to no avail. Barren County distributed the ball around the young Scotties defense seemingly at will from the opening whistle to the game’s eightieth minute.

The Scotties fell to 4-12 on the season and close out the schedule with road games versus Monroe County and Pulaski County on Oct. 4 and 9, respectively.
